Triad Retirement Resource Guide - Summer 2017 Issue

A Letter From the Publisher…

In this issue….

Cheerwine flowed freely May 18 when a crowd of 30,000 joined a parade in Salisbury, its birthplace 100 years ago. Still family owned and operated, the burgundy-hued soda, sometimes called “North Carolina nectar,” is gaining popularity well beyond Tar Heel's borders.

Moravians arriving in the Piedmont in 1753 brought with them a love of music that transcended the harshness of backcountry life. They organized what was probably the first wind band in the United States, enhancing Salem’s image as the musical center of North Carolina. The recent appointment of the band’s first woman director adds another chapter to its sterling history.

Also in this issue, check out the elegant Umstead in Durham, meet the new president of North Carolina AARP, pick up information regarding Greensboro library’s 2017 One City One Book selection, and mark your calendar for the Greensboro Historical Museum’s annual O. Henry play series. (You’ll be glad you did.)
